A short word on what this space is for.
We started 7Fourteen because we believe some of the most important conversations are also the most uncomfortable ones, and that we can have them without tearing each other down. This blog is one more table to pull a chair up to.
Our name comes from a promise. If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. That is 2 Chronicles 7:14, and it holds together the two things this blog is about: a people who belong to God, and a land that needs healing. We do not think you can care about one and ignore the other.
So here we plan to write plainly about Scripture, culture, and the questions of the day. Some weeks that will look like a passage we cannot stop thinking about. Other weeks it will be something in the news, or a tension we are watching play out in our own community, held up against what the Bible actually says. We will try to tell you what the text says before we tell you what we think, and to be honest about the difference.
A few things we are committing to from the start. We will aim for truth over heat. We will try to represent people we disagree with fairly, the way we would want to be represented. And we will keep coming back to the Gospel, because that is the only thing we have to offer that we did not make up.
If something we write resonates with you, or if you think we have missed it, we want to hear from you. That is not a formality. The whole point of a table is that more than one person gets to talk.
